The dual-headed non-binary and transgender phoenix of remembrance was illustrated on Trans Day of Remembrance 2024. TDOR is a day we hold time and space to remember trans, non-binary and gender-nonconforming individuals who were killed for being trans/nb/gnc or killed by the system often built against us. Phoenixes are associated with death and rebirth, a continual cycle. We choose the phoenix because no matter how many times we are stolen from this world, they will never truly kill our kind. The phoenix holds deep meaning to me as an artist due to this symbolism and many other trans people associate their transitions with a death-rebirth cycle the phoenix goes through too. May this shirt instill a sense of love and community as you wear it proudly while protecting others.
